(Also available in Austria upon request!)
Immerse yourself in German culture by living with a family and attending school with your host sister or brother. Most homestays take place in Berlin, but we accept requests for other areas, although we cannot guarantee regional placements. Berlin, the capital of Germany, boasts ultramodern boutiques, discotheques, art galleries, theaters, and museums.
Since German students typically remain in school through July, participants will attend an area high school in the morning with their host brother or host sister. It is not unusual to see students of all ages riding their bikes to and from school, so be prepared.
Host families in Germany volunteer to host American exchange students because they are interested in learning about our culture and language. Participants will improve their language skills and experience a rich, family-oriented culture, while enjoying the daily life of a German family.
Note: Program not offered at this time. Please check with us at a later date for 2009.

LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN REGENSBURG
While living and sharing in the daily life of a German family, participants attend a language school located in the heart of Regensburg. This small international school was founded in 1986 and has quickly earned a good international reputation through its high standard of teaching and its personal, friendly, and highly skilled instructors.
About the Language Program
This course is offered throughout the year at all levels, for beginners as well as advanced. The main goal of this program is the development of communication skills in spoken and written present-day German.
Teaching Methods
Classes are 20 per week, 45 minutes each. Working in small groups of mixed nationalities (average 8, max. 12 people), participants experience a variety of teaching methods in which cognitive, communicative, spontaneous and creative elements are combined. Participants are provided many opportunities to speak in class. Listening comprehension skills are improved with special exercises, as well as emphasis on written German.
Host Families
Students of this program will be hosted by area families, attend classes Monday through Friday, and spend evenings and weekends entirely with their host families. Weekdays participants are responsible for purchasing their own lunches, while weekends are full board accommodation. As is customary with language programs, host families receive a small compensation because students must be placed in a very specific area for close proximity to the school.
Transportation to and from School
Bus fare is about 15 Euros per week. Students can rent bikes as well for approximately 10 Euros per week.
Optional Activities & Excursions
The school organizes a wide-range of leisure activities which offers interested participants an understanding of German life and culture. Participants can sign up for any of these activities at the school. The following activities are offered: guided tours of Regensburg, visits to area businesses, walking and cycling tours, lectures on German history, lectures on modern German literature, lectures on current political, social and cultural affairs, showings of recent German films, half-day and full-day excursions (approx. 15-20 Euros).
